Authorized Bankruptcy Counseling for Vermont and New Hampshire residents

In 2005 Congress enacted a new bankruptcy law that require consumers to attend pre-filing briefings and financial management skills classes by an approved credit counseling agency. Consumer Credit Counseling Service of New Hampshire and Vermont meets the Justice Department's criteria. We understand the requirements of the new law, and we will work with you and your lawyer to fulfill your obligation.
Federally-approved bankruptcy counseling is available in-person or via telephone only; not available online.

Debt Management Programs

When budget counseling alone isn’t enough to put you back in control of your finances, we may recommend a Debt Management Program (DMP)

In these cases, we work with you and your creditors to negotiate and execute an acceptable, affordable repayment plan. Once approved by all involved parties, the DMP is administered directly by us. You make a monthly deposit with CCCS, and we disburse the funds to each creditor according to the agreed-upon schedule.

Benefits to our clients can include lower monthly payments, reduced or waived finance charges, elimination of “delinquent” notices and eventual debt liquidation. Benefits to creditors include periodic, dependable payments to reduce debt owed and limitation of costly, repeated collection efforts. DMPs have proven to be an excellent way for people struggling under an excessive debt load to regain sound financial health.

A small monthly fee may be charged, based solely on ability to pay. We ask creditors to support this service with a voluntary contribution, based on a small percentage of what is remitted to them.

Budget Counseling

More than 30 years of experience has shown us that many people burden themselves with excess consumer debt simply because they need help with basic budgeting skills. We believe that prevention is better than trying to treat a crisis--that's why we offer free, confidential budget counseling by telephone or in person at any of our offices. Our counselors will help you identify and account for all your regular living expenses, plan for periodic or irregular expenses, and review all current debt to establish a workable repayment plan. For many clients, this is all they need to correct their financial situation and prevent larger difficulties in the future.
