The History of Consumer Credit Counseling Services of NH & VT
Consumer Credit Counseling Services of NH & VT was established
to help families and persons who are experiencing financial difficulties.
Our inceptions date to 1970 when a successful pilot program, available
to bank customers only, was tried by New Hampshire Savings Bank
of Concord, NH.
Realizing the high success rate, and the great number of people
in need of help, the bank was determined to make the service available
to the public at large. John R. Hardie, President of N.H. Savings
Bank approached Fred Hackett, then President of Concord Savings
Bank and Herbert Little, President of Merrimack County Savings
Bank, both in Concord, NH. Their institutions provided the seed
money for our program. Calling together a group of interested
individuals including creditors, social workers, lawyers, and
the clergy, they resolved that their efforts should be a genuine
community services at the lowest possible cost, and free of any
possible claim of being creditor oriented. Thus CCCS of NH & VT
was born.
