Credit Report Reviews
CCCS of NH & VT recommends that you review your credit reports
once a year to make sure everything is in order and to verify
the information is accurate and up to date. This is especially
important if you are planning a major credit purchase. To access
your credit reports go to: www.annualcreditreport.com
or call 1-877-322-8228.
Once you have your reports, you may find them difficult to understand
or find that you have questions about the information. CCCS of
NH & VT can help. For a nominal fee you can schedule an appointment
with one of our counselors to go over the information in your
reports.
CCCS of NH & VT does not access your credit reports directly.
When consumers access their reports directly, it is considered
a ðsoft inquiry that does NOT affect the credit score. Thus we
recommend that consumers access their reports directly. After
reviewing the reports however, our counselors are available to
help you understand what all the numbers mean if you have questions.
The Fair Credit Reporting Act permits you to receive one free
copy of your credit report from each of the three credit bureaus
(TransUnion, Experian, Equifax) every 12 months. As a consumer,
you have the legal right to review your credit files. It is important
to check your credit reports on a yearly basis to make sure all
of your accounts are being reported accurately, there are no mistakes,
and to verify that you are not a victim of fraud or identity theft.
