Bankruptcy Counseling (Pre-filing)

In 2005 Congress enacted a new bankruptcy law. The Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act requires consumers to attend pre-filing briefings and financial management skills classes through an approved credit counseling agency.

Consumer Credit Counseling Service of New Hampshire and Vermont is "Approved to issue certificates evidencing completion of a personal financial management course in compliance with the Bankruptcy Code. Approval does not endorse or assure the quality of a provider's services."

We will work with you and your lawyer to provide you with the required education to fulfill your obligation.

Prefiling Bankruptcy counseling is available in-person or via telephone only. Call 1-800-327-6778 to schedule an appointment.

CCCS of NH & VT services are only available to residents of New Hampshire and Vermont.

 

Bankruptcy Debtor Education (Post filing)

Online sessions are available for debtor education (post bankruptcy filing).

For consumers in the process of filing for bankruptcy who need the second part of their counseling requirement. Debtor education sessions are offered online, in group sessions or individually.

The fee for the online bankrupcy education session is $40 per individual or $75 for a couple filling jointly.

Fee is due at the time of service and can be paid by debit card, bank check or a money order made payable to CCCS of NH & VT. In limited circumstances, you may be eligible to have this fee waived. Services will not be denied due to the inability to pay a fee.

Our counselors conducting bankruptcy counseling or bankruptcy education have been trained and certified in accordance with the NFCC standards, and while he/she has expertise in helping those with financial problems, he/she cannot provide you with legal advice and our services are not intended to take the place of a consultation with an attorney.

 

CCCS of NH & VT does not receive or pay fees or receive any considerations for referrals.

Online session Bankruptcy Debtor Education

CCCS of NH & VT uses the American Center for Credit Education (ACCE) course Money In Motion for its bankruptcy education . This financial education course is designed to cover a range of financial topics to provide you with the knowledge to manage your finances.

CCCS of NH & VT has been authorized to issue certificates only to individuals who have filed for bankruptcy in either Vermont or New Hampshire .

To access the Online Financial Management Course please review the following steps:

  • For consumers in the process of filing for bankruptcy who need the second part of their counseling requirement. Debtor education sessions are offered online, in group sessions or individually.
  • The fee for the online bankrupcy education session is $40 per individual or $75 for couples filling jointly.
  • You will be redirected to make payments with a debit card before starting the course.
  • Read over all instructions before you begin your course instruction.
  • Have your bankruptcy case number, social security number or driver's license number at hand.
  • The required time for the course is 2 hours.
  • Upon completion, a certified counselor will review your worksheets and answers to ensure you spent the appropriate amount of time in the course. A certificate of completion will then be issued to you via fax, mail or email.
  • Only the person that was issued the login and password is authorized to take the online course. For couples taking the Online Debtor Education Course, each student must individually complete the online session before a Certificate of Debtor Education can be issued.

Para accesar el curso en espanol por favor siga los siguentes pasos:

 

  • Haga el pago del curso con una tarjeta de debito.
  • Tenga a mano su numbero de caso de bancarrota, su numero de seguridad social o su numero de licencia de conducir.
  • Lea todas las instructions antes de comenzar el curso.
